I am amazed as I read through all the feedback and responses we've received on the continued efforts of mandating vaccinations on health workers. You've got to read some of what people are saying about the article.

The ones that really catch my attention are from those on the front lines so I wanted to share a handful of them with you...

“I finally left working in long term care b/c the overweight chain smoking DON would watch me like a hawk to make sure my mask was on properly. I was the only one in our nursing home who refused the vaccine- soon you won't even be allowed to wear the mask- it's get the shot or your fired- I left health care, returned to school and now am a nutritionist. Very happy now!”

-Karen B.

“I work for a hospital in California. Our County has put the mandate last flu season and again this year that healthcare workers must get the flu shot, if we refuse we have to wear a mask t/o shift from November-March. Our bonus is also attached to % of members who receive the flu shot. A growing number of nurses and staff are wearing the mask.”

-Kerri N.

“I'm a professional nurse who took early retirement rather than being forced, as a condition of employment to receive vaccines I didn't want to have. I have had mild cases of the flu 2 times in my life and one less mild the one and only time I had a flu shot. I was pregnant when I got that shot and my baby developed an immune suppression resulting in 6 months of gamma globulin shots to get her immunity back on track. After that I received no further shots of anything.

It's true most medical professionals refuse the flu shots. We have seen enough to know better. I chose to move out of the country, and now only visit occasionally.

Recently when I was in a pharmacy in the states I was asked 3 times about my flu shot status. My response was " No, I'm a Nurse" and one of their responses was "oh, right."

-Nora E.

“I am a healthcare provider and I do not choose to partake in flu shots. I have had to wear masks and that is fine. I explain to my patients that I am not ill, this is their protection as well as mine. They are usually happy for explanation and fine with my choice. I have never had the flu and am rarely ill but if I do get ill I stay home. However, my vaccinated co-workers come to work ill because " they didn't think they had the flu" . If I am told I "must" take the shot or be fired I will be fired.”

-Debra D.

“I am an RN in California. I was told to get the flu vaccine (offered free by the hospital I worked for) or wear a mask at work for approximately 3 months. I did not like the idea of wearing a face mask while working with my patients as I felt it would effect my relationship and communication with the families I worked with. I wore the mask for months. I watched as my like minded colleagues folded when the vaccine was offered to them at the end of their 12 hour shift! I told myself each day as I put on my mask, "this is my mask of honoring my body".”

-Linda N.

“New post today. I went into work Friday and there was a box of masks on my deck. I resigned. But I have more options than most because I was only supplementing my retirement Income. But I did like my part time job.”

-Patricia E.

“Welcome to my world.”

-Mayda T.

Once again, this precedent keeps getting pushed further and further. I'm nervous about it to say the least. Thanks to all of you that were willing to share your thoughts on the issue.
